ATE Mechanical Engineer (Contractor)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; onsite build support at domestic and international contract manufacturing sites with approximately 10–20% travel as required.

What you will do

• Own the mechanical product development lifecycle for home energy products, from fundamental design principles through high-volume production.
• Develop and evaluate mechanical concepts using calculations, physical testing, and multiphysics simulations.
• Design reliable, manufacturable parts, assemblies, test fixtures, jigs, and high-cycle mechanical components.
• Create and review drawings, specifications, bills of materials, cost and mass roll-ups, engineering releases, and manufacturing processes.
• Collaborate with suppliers and contract manufacturers on prototypes, production, inspections, and station construction.
• Support cross-functional projects with electrical engineers, automated test engineers, technicians, vendors, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

• Extensive experience with 3D modeling tools such as Onshape, NX, or SolidWorks.
• Strong knowledge of 2D drawing creation, GD&T, tolerance analysis, statics and load-path analysis, FEA, root-cause analysis, and DFMEA.
• Experience with PCBA bed-of-nails fixtures, mechanical control outlines, fine-pitch assemblies, strain-gauge measurements, and PCB stress prevention.
• Knowledge of pneumatic cylinders, thermal management, electronic test equipment, electromechanical troubleshooting, and high-cycle test fixtures.
• Prototyping experience with 3D printing, machining, sheet-metal bending, laser cutting, milling, and general machine-shop tools.
• Experience with supplier communication, DFM reviews, First Article Inspection, PPAP, work instructions, PFMEA, preventive maintenance documentation, and onsite manufacturing support.
