Forward Deployed Product Engineer, Internal Tools & Automation (AI)

Location: 100% remote within the USA, with no recurring office requirement. Candidates based in or near Austin, Texas are preferred but Austin is not required. Occasional travel may be required for company onsites, workflow discovery, or major rollouts.

What you will do

• Discover and document critical operational workflows with frontline operators and functional leaders.
• Define records, identifiers, lifecycle states, ownership, decision rules, exceptions, permissions, and auditability.
• Use SQL and direct data inspection to reconcile records, validate assumptions, and improve data quality.
• Map information flows across business systems, spreadsheets, documents, APIs, and manual handoffs.
• Prototype and deliver deterministic automations, AI-assisted workflows, integrations, and internal tools with human review and failure handling.
• Own rollout, training, adoption, measurement, roadmap prioritization, and retirement of replaced workarounds.

Requirements

• Experience owning a cross-functional workflow or internal product from ambiguity through delivery, adoption, and measurable operating results.
• Strong process-discovery skills and the ability to identify undocumented rules, exceptions, ownership gaps, and conflicting definitions.
• Practical fluency with relational data and the ability to write and review SQL for inspection, joins, reconciliation, and validation.
• Working knowledge of APIs, integrations, authentication, events or webhooks, failure handling, and system boundaries.
• Strong product judgment, technical communication, and experience partnering with software engineers while retaining ownership of business outcomes.
• Hands-on experience designing, prototyping, or shipping workflow automation, including AI-assisted tools and appropriate human review.

Nice to have

• Experience in manufacturing, supply chain, procurement, logistics, construction, project delivery, or another physical operating environment.
• Experience connecting commercial, operational, procurement, and financial records.
• Familiarity with NetSuite, HubSpot, order-management tools, procurement platforms, or document-based RFQ workflows.
• Experience with role-based access control, auditability, sensitive data, secure interfaces, and complex system dependencies.
• Hands-on experimentation with AI agents and local, hosted, or hybrid model architectures.
