Controls & Automation Engineer (Medical Devices)

Location: On-site in New Brighton, Minnesota, United States

Salary: $115,000–$135,000 per year, plus eligibility for bonus or incentive pay.

What you will do

• Design and develop custom automated equipment for medical device assembly, inspection, packaging, and testing.
• Lead machine-building projects from concept through commissioning, including mechanical design, controls integration, and technical documentation.
• Specify and source actuators, sensors, vision systems, robotics, and control panels.
• Program and integrate PLCs, HMIs, motion controllers, and other control systems.
• Collaborate with production and cross-functional teams during equipment handoff, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
• Maintain mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, bills of materials, and software-version documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering.
• 6+ years of experience in machine design, machine building, and automation within a regulated manufacturing environment, preferably medical devices or pharmaceuticals.
• Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD and PLC programming platforms such as Allen-Bradley or Siemens.
• Hands-on experience with robotics, vision systems, pneumatics, and motion control.
• Strong problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with machine shop tools, prototyping, and cleanroom-compatible machine design.
• Knowledge of FDA regulations, ISO 13485, and equipment validation practices.
• Familiarity with MES and SCADA integration.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
