Staff Engineer - MedTech Surgery - R&D

Location: Irving, Texas, United States, with a hybrid schedule requiring 3 days in the office and 2 days remote; the role may also be based in Raritan, New Jersey, United States.

Salary: $109,000–$174,800 per year.

What you will do

• Lead project and technical teams designing, developing, and manufacturing breast implants, tissue expanders, and related processes.
• Apply scientific and engineering principles to advance R&D projects through design control and stage-gate milestones.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, deliverables, risks, and issues while communicating progress to management.
• Work with surgeons, key opinion leaders, customers, marketing, supply chain, manufacturing, and suppliers to identify needs and develop viable products.
• Advance products through concept generation, feasibility, verification, validation, design transfer, and commercialization.
• Support regulatory submissions, audits, GMP compliance, data integrity, and good documentation practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
• At least 8 years of experience in medical device or similarly regulated product research, development, and commercialization.
• Understanding of design controls, including CFR 820.30, and solid statistical knowledge.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and product lifecycle management systems; Windchill is preferred.
• Ability to move materials and light equipment weighing up to 10 pounds.
• Ability to work in office and laboratory environments while following health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
• Experience launching Class III medical implants or devices in a design control environment.
• Experience with polymer-based biomaterials, absorbable polymers, scaffolds, and related manufacturing processes.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams, mechanical testing, test method development, and test method validation.
• Experience in industrial design, human factors, ethnographic research, process mapping, or usability.
