Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; office-first culture with three days per week in the office for most roles.

Annual base pay: $139,725–$209,588 USD. The role may also include discretionary bonuses, equity, commissions, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the design and architecture of major features and components in alignment with broader system architecture.
• Determine technical approaches independently for complex and ambiguous assignments.
• Partner with engineering, Product, and UX teams to shape solutions before implementation.
• Establish and champion engineering best practices across teams.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers and help expand their technical judgment and ownership.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience leading technical initiatives spanning multiple engineers or systems.
• Deep expertise in relevant frontend and/or backend technologies, including cloud architecture experience.
• Ability to provide technical guidance beyond the immediate team and make independent decisions on complex assignments.

Nice to have

• Professional experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Devin, Windsurf, or similar.
