Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States

Salary: $165,000–$215,000 annually, depending on location, experience, and skills.

What you will do

• Lead mission-critical, multi-quarter initiatives across multiple teams and connected systems.
• Own architecture and scalable boundaries across frontend, APIs, data, and production systems.
• Write and review code, prototype, debug, lead migrations, and operate services in production.
• Identify valuable applications for models, agents, retrieval, and automation while establishing guardrails.
• Improve testing, performance, observability, security, reliability, and incident response.
• Mentor engineers and shape product-area roadmaps, technical standards, and cross-team alignment.

Requirements

• Typically 7+ years of professional software development experience or equivalent sustained Staff-level impact.
• Hands-on experience with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot.
• Production frontend experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and React; Next.js experience is preferred.
• Experience building production services and APIs, with Go or Python experience or the ability to learn either language.
• Experience with relational databases, SQL, schema design, transactions, migrations, testing, accessibility, authentication, authorization, and web security.
• Ability to work remotely from within the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience building and evaluating AI-enabled production features using model APIs, retrieval, tool calling, or agent workflows.
• Experience with AI evaluation harnesses, tracing, feedback loops, model or prompt versioning, and cost or latency monitoring.
• Experience with MCP servers, agent tools, reusable plugins, automated code review, or custom AI workflows.
• Experience with CMS, publishing, media, subscription, search, or consumer-facing products.
• Experience with Go or Python, distributed systems, gRPC, cloud infrastructure, containers, queues, or CI/CD.
