Senior Data Engineer (AI)

Location: United States; fully remote with primary work during Eastern Time hours

Annual salary: $140,000–$160,000 USD, plus potential bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Architect and implement end-to-end modern data platforms, including lakehouse, warehouse, ELT, semantic, and orchestration layers.
• Build scalable, secure ingestion and transformation pipelines with access controls, governance, encryption, and auditability.
• Design durable data models for business, analytics, and AI consumption.
• Implement and operate production streaming systems while addressing schema evolution, backpressure, and exactly-once semantics.
• Work directly with clients to scope requirements, present architecture decisions, explain tradeoffs, and own delivery outcomes.
• Collaborate with the CEO and a small senior engineering team on high-impact platform decisions.

Requirements

• Significant experience building production data systems with senior-level ownership of architecture decisions.
• Production implementation experience with Snowflake, BigQuery, or Databricks.
• Hands-on experience building scalable data pipelines using orchestration, dbt or similar transformation frameworks, and AWS or GCP.
• Strong understanding of data modeling approaches including Kimball, star schema, Data Vault, and OBT.
• Production experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka, Flink, Redpanda, or similar.
• Clear communication skills, business orientation, and the ability to present technical tradeoffs to engineering and business stakeholders.
