Sr. Principal Architect - Observability (AI)

Location: Pleasanton, California, USA; hybrid Flex Work with at least 50% of each quarter spent in the office or in the field

Annual base salary: $261,800–$392,600 USD for the primary location; additional US locations offer $221,600–$392,600 USD.

What you will do

• Provide hands-on architectural leadership for the Observability Platform and Services across all observability pillars.
• Drive agentic experiences for incident detection, triage, root-cause analysis, and recovery through Observability MCP and Observability Agents.
• Ensure observability across logs, metrics, traces, alerts, virtualized infrastructure, Kubernetes, and bare-metal systems.
• Standardize observability tooling, publish engineering standards, and leverage open specifications such as OpenTelemetry.
• Collaborate with Infrastructure, Technology Operations, Product, and engineering teams.
• Promote observability adoption, establish frameworks, and support engineering-team onboarding.

Requirements

• BS or MS in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• At least 10 years of software engineering or architecture experience delivering high-quality products at massive scale.
• 10+ years of experience writing production code in Java, Scala, Go, or Python and designing systems aligned with business needs.
• Hands-on expertise with observability platforms such as Prometheus, Mimir, Elasticsearch, ClickHouse, VictoriaMetrics, Jaeger, or Zipkin.
• Experience with data collection agents, loggers, visualization, and correlation across multiple data domains.
• Expertise in LLM orchestration and observability for AI agents, including latency, quality, evaluations, conversations, and tool or agent invocations.

Nice to have

• Experience building observability agents with MCPs, Skills, LangChain, or similar orchestration frameworks.
• Experience deploying observability across the OSI stack.
• Expertise in low-latency, high-throughput data processing.
• Open-source contributions to observability frameworks and platforms.
• Outstanding presentation and communication skills for technical and executive audiences.
