Backend Engineer (Ruby)

What you will do

• Develop secure, tested, and performant repository management features using Ruby and GraphQL.
• Build and maintain backend services, APIs, data models, and business logic for repository management.
• Translate complex policy, permissions, and legacy system requirements into reliable solutions.
• Collaborate with product management, design, testing, security, user research, technical writing, Gitaly, Code Review, and Source Code Experience.
• Use AI coding agents for suitable work and critically review their output.
• Monitor production health, participate in Tier 2 on-call, troubleshoot incidents, support root cause analysis, and improve observability and resiliency.

Requirements

• Professional experience building backend web applications, services, or APIs.
• Experience with Ruby and GraphQL, or the ability to learn them.
• Understanding of relational databases, SQL, data modeling, caching, background processing, and backend performance.
• Experience with policy, permissions, or rules-based features, backend unit and integration testing, Git, and collaborative code review.
• Experience using AI coding tools or agents and reviewing their output.
• Clear written and spoken English communication skills are required, including collaboration in a remote, asynchronous environment.
