TL;DR
Senior Manager, Media and Issues (MedTech): Leading global media relations, issues management, and crisis preparedness for DePuy Synthes with an accent on reputational risk, regulated healthcare communications, and executive counsel. Focus on managing sensitive product, safety, regulatory, litigation, and business-transformation communications while coordinating with legal, regulatory, quality, and regional teams.

Location: Hybrid role based in Raynham, Massachusetts, United States; the posting also lists Raritan, New Jersey. Up to 20% domestic and international travel may be required.

Base pay: $122,000–$212,750 per year.

Johnson & Johnson MedTech develops healthcare and medical technology solutions, with the Orthopaedics business planned to separate into the standalone DePuy Synthes company.

What you will do

  • Lead global media relations and issues management strategy, including proactive storytelling and reactive response.
  • Advise senior leaders on reputational risk, emerging issues, and external narratives.
  • Develop crisis and issues management plans, message frameworks, escalation protocols, and spokesperson preparation.
  • Manage media inquiries involving product quality, safety, regulatory actions, litigation, and business transformation.
  • Partner with Legal, Regulatory, Quality, Medical Affairs, HR, Commercial, and regional communications teams.
  • Monitor media, social, and stakeholder landscapes and prepare executive briefings, Q&A materials, statements, and talking points.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • 8–10 years of progressive experience in media relations, issues management, corporate communications, or public affairs, including senior-manager-level leadership.
  • Experience managing complex, high-risk, and high-visibility issues in a regulated industry such as medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or healthcare.
  • Ability to counsel senior executives and influence decisions under pressure, with strong writing, editing, verbal communication, and judgment skills.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with legal, regulatory, and compliance partners.
  • English required; additional languages are a plus.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Communications, Public Affairs, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience with global or regional communications in a matrixed organization.
  • Knowledge of orthopaedic, MedTech, or healthcare industry dynamics.
  • Experience with business transformation, mergers, acquisitions, corporate separations, or spokesperson preparation.
  • Communications or public relations certification and people or project leadership experience.
