TL;DR
Senior Staff FPGA Engineer (Aerospace): Leading FPGA architecture, design, verification, and deployment for satellite, spacecraft, and other space-based communication systems with an accent on high-speed interfaces, digital processing, clock-domain management, and radiation-tolerant hardware. Focus on defining FPGA architectures, closing timing and power constraints, validating designs in the lab, and guiding junior engineers through space-program development.

What you will do

  • Lead FPGA design and verification for space-based programs while ensuring compliance with industry standards and program requirements.
  • Define FPGA architecture, partitioning, interfaces, and specifications with systems engineering, hardware, and software teams.
  • Develop architectures from high-level system requirements, including device selection, SWAP-C estimates, utilization, and power optimization.
  • Design and validate HDL-based FPGA systems with high-speed serial interfaces, data streams, digital processing cores, multiple clock domains, and management interfaces.
  • Present engineering design reviews to customers and executives, contribute to proposals, and act as a technical subject matter expert.
  • Mentor junior FPGA designers and track emerging technologies for future space applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • 12 years of industry or university research experience designing, analyzing, and implementing FPGA systems at the HDL level.
  • Proficiency in VHDL and/or Verilog, FPGA synthesis, place and route, timing closure, and verification.
  • Experience with radiation-tolerant FPGA devices and space-environment considerations, including radiation-effect mitigation techniques.
  • Experience with HDL Coder, ModelSim RTL simulation, Xilinx and Microsemi tool flows, and laboratory test equipment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, conditional resident, asylee, refugee, or otherwise eligible to obtain required U.S. government authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Experience with worst-case, failure mode and criticality, and reliability analyses.
  • Knowledge of digital communications, digital signal processing, board-level hardware design, and power optimization.
  • Experience working with distributed teams, Git, and agile firmware development flows.
