Senior Software Engineer (Backend): Building and operating privacy- and security-focused backend platforms and APIs for Firefox and Mozilla services with an accent on distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and production reliability. Focus on owning services end to end, improving observability and incident response, designing data contracts, and applying AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully.

What you will do
- Lead backend development for server-side services, APIs, and data contracts.
- Own services end to end, including deployment, production operations, reliability, and service health.
- Maintain and improve cloud environments with monitoring and alerting using tools such as OpenTelemetry, Sentry, Prometheus, and Grafana.
- Participate in on-call and support rotations, investigating incidents, resolving production issues, managing releases, and updating dependencies.
- Collaborate with frontend engineering, Cloud Engineering, product, UX, design, and support partners on API design and project delivery.
- Contribute to code reviews, security and privacy reviews, testing, and thoughtful use of AI-assisted development tools.
Requirements
- 4+ years of software development experience focused on backend technologies.
- Strong professional experience with Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or Rust for building backend services.
- Proficiency with PostgreSQL, SQL query optimization, relational schema design, migrations, and query builders such as Knex.
- Hands-on DevOps experience with Google Cloud Platform and Docker-based build and deployment pipelines.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Sentry and Grafana, as well as on-call or off-hours production support.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and driving improvements in code quality, testing, and engineering processes.
Nice to have
- Performance or load testing experience.
- Experience with Terraform or Kubernetes.
- Open-source contributions or personal engineering projects.
- Django experience.
