TL;DR
Telecommunications Mechanic II - Outside Plant (OSP) (Telecommunications Infrastructure): Maintaining and modernizing mission-critical voice, data, switching, voicemail, and outside plant systems at a U.S. Department of Defense facility with an accent on fiber, copper, coaxial, aerial, underground, and direct-buried cable infrastructure. Focus on troubleshooting outages, testing communications cabling, updating technical documentation, and supporting reliable telecommunications services under BICSI, OSHA, and DoD requirements.

Location: Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, USA; non-remote. Relocation incentive available.

Salary: $30.92 per hour

What you will do

  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and modernize telephone switching equipment, voicemail platforms, and telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Configure and manage telephone and voicemail services, service requests, work orders, and trouble tickets.
  • Install, repair, test, and maintain aerial, underground, and direct-buried fiber optic, copper, and coaxial cable systems.
  • Diagnose outages and equipment failures while monitoring system performance and conducting preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain outside plant records, cable routes, telecommunications drawings, construction packages, and as-built documentation.
  • Coordinate with government customers, contractors, and technical stakeholders on inspections, upgrades, modernization, and service delivery.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance; clearance sponsorship is available for qualified candidates.
  • Five or more years of experience in telecommunications infrastructure, voice systems, outside plant operations, or telecommunications installation and maintenance.
  • Experience with fiber optic, copper, and coaxial cabling, including installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Knowledge of BICSI standards, OSHA requirements, telecommunications installation practices, and industry regulations.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, information technology, computer science, telecommunications, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting DoD, federal government, or military telecommunications environments.
  • Experience with telephone switching systems, voicemail platforms, enterprise communications, and infrastructure modernization projects.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
