Cable Technician

Location: Onsite in Austin, Texas, USA; must live within a one-hour drive of the assigned campus. Standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and on-call work.

Compensation: USD 25–27 per hour

What you will do

• Install, adjust, terminate, test, troubleshoot, dress, and label copper and fiber layer-one network connections.
• Work with Cat 5e/6/6a copper and single-mode and multi-mode fiber, including LC, SC, ST, APC, and MPO/MTP interfaces.
• Perform fusion and mechanical splicing and certify fiber using OTDRs, OLTS equipment, and inspection scopes.
• Interpret floor plans and as-built documentation, identify field constraints, and document deviations for final records.
• Own ticket-driven scopes from material checks through execution, acceptance, and closeout documentation.
• Guide Tech I personnel, maintain installation and testing SOPs, and support rack activities, hardware replacements, hotfixes, and scheduled changes.

Requirements

• 3+ years of structured cabling experience, including hands-on copper and fiber installation, plus 2+ years in a construction environment.
• Proficiency with Cat 5e/6/6a termination and certification using Fluke DSX or equivalent equipment.
• Proficiency with fiber termination, OTDR, OLTS, inspection scopes, and applicable low-voltage safety standards.
• High school diploma or equivalent, OSHA 10 certification, valid driver's license, and reliable transportation.
• Clear spoken, written, and reading English; must pass a criminal background check and live within a one-hour drive of the assigned campus.
• Ability to read floor plans, use standard computer tools, lift 50 pounds, work on ladders up to 40 feet, enter confined spaces, and wear cleanroom PPE for extended periods.

Nice to have

• Associate's degree in a related technical field.
• Experience in semiconductor, cleanroom, data center, or other mission-critical environments.
• BICSI Installer 1 or Installer 2, fusion splicing, or manufacturer-specific fiber termination certification.
• Experience mentoring junior technicians or leading small crews; OSHA 30 certification.
