TL;DR
Senior Engineer, Structural Analyst (Aerospace) (FEA/UAV): Analyzing and testing lightweight airframe structures and components for advanced UAVs with an accent on finite element modeling, composite and metallic materials, and structural validation. Focus on performing static, modal, fatigue, and vibration analyses, correlating flight and test data, and optimizing structures for weight, strength, manufacturability, and safety.

Location: On-site in Seattle, Washington; San Diego, California; or Dallas, Texas

Company

Develops advanced unmanned aerial vehicles and high-performance aerospace systems.

What you will do

  • Build and refine finite element models for UAV components and airframe structures.
  • Perform static, modal, fatigue, and vibration analyses, supported by hand calculations.
  • Optimize lightweight structures for weight, strength, manufacturability, and safety.
  • Support structural validation test plans covering quasi-static, vibration, and shock testing.
  • Analyze flight telemetry and structural test data to correlate predictions with real-world performance.
  • Document structural analysis reports and technical recommendations while collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in structural analysis, finite element modeling, or aircraft loads analysis with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field; alternatively, 3+ years with an M.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience with FEA tools such as FEMAP, NASTRAN, HyperWorks, ANSYS, Patran, or similar.
  • Ability to perform hand calculations for structural strength and stability analysis.
  • Knowledge of composite materials, lightweight aerospace structures, and mechanical testing methods.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools such as Excel, MATLAB, Python, or similar.
  • Ability to obtain a S//SAR-level security clearance is desired.

Nice to have

  • Experience with aircraft structural design, UAV airframe development, or aerospace testing.
  • Hands-on structural testing experience.
  • Exposure to CAD software such as NX, CATIA, or SolidWorks and PLM tools such as Teamcenter.
  • Understanding of aerospace standards, structural certification, material selection, fatigue, and damage tolerance.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employee position in an on-site aerospace engineering environment.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with Mechanical Systems, Propulsion, Mechanisms, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Opportunity to contribute to structural analysis methodologies, tools, and best practices.
