Cloud Platform Engineer (AWS)

Location: McLean, Virginia, United States; hybrid

Salary: $100,000–$180,000 per year, depending on experience, certifications, and qualifications.

What you will do

• Design, implement, operate, and improve secure AWS hosting environments across development, test, and production.
• Build reusable Infrastructure as Code patterns with Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or similar technologies.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, security scanning, deployment, and releases.
• Deploy, operate, and troubleshoot containerized workloads with Docker, Amazon ECS/Fargate, and Amazon EKS/Kubernetes.
• Develop Python, Shell, or PowerShell automation to reduce manual effort and standardize operations.
• Support monitoring, incident response, maintenance, security controls, documentation, and a rotating on-call schedule.

Requirements

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in cloud engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, infrastructure automation, systems engineering, or a related field.
• Hands-on AWS experience with services including EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, RDS, EFS, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and Systems Manager.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and at least one container platform such as ECS/Fargate or EKS/Kubernetes.
• CompTIA Security+ certification or ability to obtain it within 60 days, and AWS certification or ability to obtain it within 90 days.

Nice to have

• Experience with both ECS/Fargate and EKS/Kubernetes, including Helm, networking, storage, autoscaling, and container registries.
• Experience with federal, Public Trust, NIST, DoD, or similar compliance environments.
• Experience with CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, AWS networking, Linux or Windows administration, Active Directory, or LDAP.
• Experience integrating generative AI services, APIs, or AI-assisted tools into cloud applications and engineering workflows.
• AWS Associate, Specialty, or Professional-level certification and experience leading customer solutioning discussions.
