Data Engineer (Azure/Databricks)

Location: Canada; hybrid work with three days per week of in-person presence

Salary: CAD 65,000–100,000 per year

What you will do

• Develop and maintain scalable batch and incremental data pipelines with Databricks on Microsoft Azure.
• Build Python and SQL transformations and ingest data from enterprise applications, files, APIs, and event-driven sources.
• Design and maintain raw, refined, and curated Lakehouse datasets.
• Perform data-quality checks, anomaly detection, reconciliations, monitoring, and production troubleshooting.
• Partner with analytics, data science, and AI teams to provide trusted data for reporting and advanced analytics.
• Follow data governance, privacy, security, documentation, and runbook standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Hands-on Python experience for data processing and automation, plus working knowledge of SQL.
• Exposure to Databricks, including jobs, notebooks, and Delta Lake concepts, or a similar cloud data platform.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure storage, compute, identity, and networking services.
• Understanding of ETL/ELT, data modelling, schema evolution, performance optimization, validation, and monitoring.
• Ability to write maintainable code and work with version control and engineering standards.

Nice to have

• Experience with Delta Lake or Lakehouse architectures.
• Exposure to CI/CD for data pipelines.
• Experience with data governance, privacy, regulated data, or financial services and insurance environments.
• Experience supporting enterprise production data solutions.
• Interest in AI-enabled analytics and automation.
