TL;DR
Lifecycle Engineering Co-Op Full Time Intern (Medical Devices): Supporting released cardiac monitoring products through electrical hardware, embedded firmware, manufacturing test systems, and regulatory documentation with an accent on product reliability, manufacturability, and compliance. Focus on prototyping PCB components, updating embedded and fixture software, executing verification and validation, and investigating production and field failures.

Location: Orange County, CA; Cypress, CA. The assignment also states San Francisco as the program location and requires availability from January through June 2027. This is an onsite, hands-on laboratory and manufacturing role.

Salary: $25.00–$30.00 per hour. An estimated pay range of $25.00–$35.00 per hour is also provided.

What you will do

  • Prototype and test electrical PCB components integrated with embedded firmware and fixture software.
  • Update manufacturing equipment software, functional test scripts, and ICT/boundary scan integrations to improve yield, throughput, and reliability.
  • Support embedded software updates and hardware/software integration while addressing IEC 62304 and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Execute verification and validation activities, including test plans, protocols, automated regression suites, and compliant reports.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, test methods, protocols, and regulatory documentation for design control and manufacturing transfer.
  • Investigate production components, assemblies, and field returns while maintaining laboratory equipment.

Requirements

  • Current student pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of PCBA design, embedded systems, embedded software development in C/C++, and hardware/software integration.
  • Familiarity with laboratory test equipment and comfort working hands-on in a lab environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting, critical thinking, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and collaborate with engineering, quality, and regulatory groups.
  • Availability for the full-time six-month assignment from January through June 2027.

Nice to have

  • Ability to understand and modify Java, Python, JavaScript, C#, and other automated test scripts and frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Git, branching strategies, code reviews, CI, engineering change control, and traceability.
