Principal Software Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Remote within the United States; candidates living within 50 miles of a GM hub must report to the hub three times per week or at a frequency set by the manager. Travel required: less than 25%. Relocation benefits are available for eligible candidates.

Salary: $171,150–$288,500 per year, plus incentive pay potential.

What you will do

• Architect enterprise-scale CI/CD systems for embedded, simulation, and cloud workloads.
• Define branching, release, quality-gate, and engineering standards across multiple domains.
• Design GitOps-based delivery for multi-cluster Kubernetes environments.
• Lead progressive delivery strategies with automated rollback and analysis.
• Establish Terraform-based infrastructure architecture and integrate security, compliance, and observability into pipelines and artifact flows.
• Lead high-impact engineering productivity initiatives while coaching and mentoring DevOps and simulation developers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in software engineering or equivalent experience.
• 12+ years of software development experience.
• Deep knowledge of real-time software architecture and experience shipping safety-critical products.
• Deep Kubernetes knowledge, including cluster operations, and strong production-grade Terraform/IaC experience.
• Experience with embedded or simulation workflows such as vECUs, SIL, FMU, or SSP.
• Cloud architecture experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, plus strong analytical, communication, and mentoring abilities.

Nice to have

• 15+ years of software development experience or a master's or advanced degree.
• Experience in automotive, aerospace, defense, industrial, regulated, embedded, real-time, or safety-critical environments.
• Knowledge of ISO 26262, cybersecurity engineering, ASPICE, MISRA, AUTOSAR, or related practices.
• Experience with vehicle-level integration and validation, including SIL, CoSIM, vECU, HIL, benches, or physical systems.
• Experience creating enterprise standards, platform strategies, developer self-service, reliability objectives, or measurable productivity improvements.
