Staff Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States — onsite at 1375 Crossman Avenue.

Salary: $150,080–$286,000 per year, plus annual or quarterly performance incentives.

What you will do

• Assess software products, requirements, gaps, risks, change requests, and technical trade-offs.
• Design and maintain software components and distributed backend applications with high availability, scalability, and durability requirements.
• Develop detailed software designs, configuration, scripts, telemetry, and automation for repetitive engineering tasks.
• Troubleshoot performance and availability bottlenecks using application logs, maintenance data, metrics, and performance analysis.
• Design test strategies, select testing tools, create test cases, and execute unit, integration, regression, performance, and stress tests.
• Review code and analyze defects to address known risks and prevent recurrence.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or equivalent in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or a related area plus 2 years of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus 4 years of relevant experience.
• Object-oriented programming experience with Java, C, and C++, plus Python and Java frameworks such as Spring Boot.
• Experience developing distributed backend services and horizontally scalable microservices for high-volume production systems.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Docker, Kubernetes, Apache Kafka, Memcached, Redis, MySQL, Azure SQL, and Cassandra.
• Experience with performance and stress testing, big data technologies such as Hive and Spark, and workflow tools such as Airflow.
• Experience with JUnit, TestNG, Testcontainers, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and Helm-based CI/CD automation.
