Senior Software Engineer (Database)

Location: Hybrid role based in Seattle, Washington, United States

Salary: $140,000–$240,000 annual base pay, plus equity and bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Design and build a unified observability platform for database availability, security, reliability, and latency.
• Develop secure MCP interfaces for AI agents to query and interact with production databases.
• Build an agentic AI DBA for performance tuning, capacity planning, schema review, incident triage, and remediation.
• Create self-service workflows for provisioning, configuring, scaling, and managing Postgres and Redis.
• Establish database reliability practices covering connection pooling, query optimization, backup and recovery, failover, and change management.
• Partner with product engineers on performance issues, schema design, data modeling, and access patterns; participate in database on-call rotations.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or Kotlin.
• Deep PostgreSQL experience, including performance tuning, replication, backup and recovery, schema design, and operations.
• Experience with Redis data modeling, clustering, persistence, and operational management.
• Hands-on experience with GCP or an equivalent cloud provider, Terraform, Kubernetes, and Docker.
• Demonstrated experience building automation, tooling, or platforms that replace manual operational work.
• Strong system design skills and the ability to architect reliable, scalable infrastructure services.

Nice to have

• Experience with Google CloudSQL, Google Memorystore, internal developer platforms, database-as-a-service systems, or self-service infrastructure tooling.
• Experience with AI/ML, LLM integration, AI-powered infrastructure automation, or MCP.
• Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, monitoring, and alerting for database infrastructure.
• Background in fintech, payments, or regulated industries where data integrity, security, and compliance are critical.
