Senior Software Engineer (Database)

Location: Hybrid in Seattle, WA

What you will do

• Design and implement a unified database observability platform for real-time visibility into reliability, security, and latency.
• Build a Model Context Protocol (MCP) to enable secure and safe AI agent access to production databases.
• Develop an Agentic AI DBA to automate routine tasks such as performance tuning, capacity planning, and incident triage.
• Create a self-service platform allowing product engineers to provision and scale Postgres and Redis instances independently.
• Establish and enforce database best practices, including connection pooling, query optimization, and failover procedures.
• Partner with engineering teams to optimize schema designs and data modeling for Postgres and Redis.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or Kotlin.
• Deep expertise in PostgreSQL, including performance tuning, replication, and operational best practices.
• Strong experience with Redis data modeling and clustering strategies.
• Hands-on experience with GCP, Terraform, Kubernetes, and Docker.
• Proven track record of building scalable automation and platforms to replace manual operational work.
• Must be based in Seattle, WA for a hybrid work arrangement.

Nice to have

• Experience with Google CloudSQL and Google Memorystore.
• Background in building internal developer platforms (IDP) or Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) systems.
• Knowledge of AI/ML technologies, LLM integration, or MCP.
• Experience with observability tools like Grafana, Prometheus, or Datadog.
• Prior experience in fintech, payments, or other highly regulated industries.
