Principal Software Developer (Retail POS)

What you will do

• Set and communicate architectural direction for key areas of the Retail Point of Sale platform.
• Design reliable, secure, scalable, observable, and resilient systems supporting checkout, hardware, connectivity, payments, sales, inventory, and order workflows.
• Lead architectural deep-dives to simplify systems, reduce duplication, improve performance, and lower operational risk.
• Drive improvements in reliability, availability, latency, recovery, incident prevention, and operational practices.
• Partner with Product, Design, Support, and engineering leaders to turn ambiguous problems into technical direction.
• Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders while creating alignment across teams through influence.

Requirements

• Significant experience designing and building business-critical production software.
• Technical leadership experience across multiple teams or a broad product area.
• Experience shaping architecture for large, evolving systems with significant scale and operational complexity.
• Experience building and operating cloud-based systems with strong reliability, security, and performance requirements.
• Experience across multiple technical layers, including backend services, web and mobile clients, data stores, APIs, event-driven systems, and infrastructure.
• Fluency in English as a working language is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with point-of-sale, commerce, ecommerce, payments, inventory, or other transaction-heavy systems.
• Experience with distributed systems, offline-capable software, multi-region systems, or high-availability platforms.
• Experience integrating hardware, payment terminals, peripherals, or systems operating with unreliable network connectivity.
• Knowledge of domain-driven design, event-driven architecture, data consistency, and migration strategies.
• Experience with incremental modernization and technical leadership across web, backend, mobile, and platform teams.
