Housing Inspector-Maintenance Technician

What you will do

• Inspect HCV Section 8 units and BHA-owned or managed properties during initial lease-up and annual compliance cycles.
• Evaluate building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, occupancy, sanitation, zoning, and HUD-related conditions.
• Investigate complaints involving overcrowding, cleanliness, infestations, and risks to occupant or neighbor safety.
• Prepare descriptive inspection reports, schedule inspections, process maintenance work orders, and maintain related records.
• Perform carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, painting, boiler, and general building maintenance work.
• Remove snow and ice, operate snow removal equipment, and complete landscaping duties.

Requirements

• Knowledge of property inspection and building maintenance gained through an associate’s degree and at least three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination.
• Experience with multifamily housing programs and knowledge of HUD regulations, codes, policies, and procedures.
• Ability to inspect electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment and identify defects and required repairs.
• Housing Quality Standards and Universal Physical Conditions Standards certificates, or the ability to obtain them within six months.
• Ability to work independently, communicate clearly and professionally, and use work order processes and related software.
• Valid Maine driver’s license required.
