What you will do

• Design, execute, troubleshoot, and optimize transient transfection workflows for antibodies and proteins across mammalian expression systems.
• Develop and perform small- to mid-scale antibody purification using affinity, ion-exchange, hydrophobic interaction, size-exclusion, and other chromatographic methods.
• Characterize antibodies using SDS-PAGE or SDS-cGE, SEC-HPLC, SEC-MALS, and mass spectrometry-based methods.
• Develop automated, high-throughput protein production workflows using Bravo and other laboratory platforms.
• Develop expression and purification methods for difficult-to-handle proteins and VLPs while improving yield and product stability.
• Document laboratory work in Benchling and communicate findings through reports and presentations while managing multiple projects.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Protein Engineering, or a related field with 1–3 years of industry experience, or an M.S. with 5–7 years of direct industry experience.
• Hands-on experience with multiple mammalian expression platforms and recombinant protein production.
• Proficiency with AKTA instrumentation and antibody purification methods, including affinity, ion exchange, HIC, and SEC.
• Experience with SDS-PAGE or SDS-cGE, SEC-HPLC, SEC-MALS, and mass spectrometry-based antibody analysis.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, record-keeping, communication, planning, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work onsite in San Diego, California.

Nice to have

• Experience with therapeutic antibody developability assessment.
• Experience with protein chemical conjugation techniques and automated high-throughput workflows.
