TL;DR
Senior Product Engineer (Automotive Seating): Designing, developing, analyzing, and validating complex seat subsystems for vehicle programs with an accent on DFSS, CAD integration, and cross-functional product development. Focus on integrating components, occupants, and seating systems, reducing component variants, and solving cost, mass, quality, comfort, and timing challenges.

Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan; onsite at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week. Travel required up to 25%. The role is not eligible for relocation benefits.

What you will do

  • Lead product development and Core Engineering integration activities for seat variants across vehicle programs.
  • Design, develop, analyze, implement, and validate complex seat subsystems.
  • Perform design evaluations and concept development using Design for Six Sigma methods.
  • Manage component packaging and CAD development with GM designers and suppliers.
  • Integrate seating components with occupants, vehicle systems, and architecture constraints while supporting comfort, craftsmanship, quality assembly, and virtual validation.
  • Lead cross-functional product development activities, track open issues, support program milestones, and balance cost, mass, complexity, timing, and customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience developing and executing technical solutions for mechanical components in new vehicle programs.
  • Previous seat development experience.
  • Required DFSS Green Belt and Black Belt certifications.
  • Experience balancing cost, mass, complexity, and timing while working with multidisciplinary and cross-cultural teams.
  • GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship; candidates must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • Familiarity with Red-X structured problem-solving methods.
  • Experience with DFMEA, PFMEA, and GD&T.
