Senior System Design Engineer (Machine Control Systems)

Location: Dayton, Ohio, United States. Travel, including international travel, is less than 25%.

Salary: $115,600–$158,900 per year, plus bonus eligibility and comprehensive benefits.

What you will do

• Design and integrate machine control systems for excavators, bulldozers, graders, and other earthmoving and paving equipment.
• Define system architectures, machine control networks, communication interfaces, messaging protocols, and bus loading analyses.
• Collaborate with marketing, machine OEMs, and multidisciplinary engineering teams on product design, verification, and machine integration.
• Decompose system and safety requirements into subsystem requirements and support electronics component selection and system schematics.
• Coordinate product safety lifecycle activities, including V-model execution, safety concepts, hazard and risk analyses, DFMEA, FMEDA, PFMEA, and common cause failure analysis.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance while resolving complex engineering problems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in embedded product development, including at least 3 years developing functionally safe products.
• Experience with system design, system architectures, CAN networks, machine integration, and vehicular communication and control systems.
• Knowledge of electronics hardware and software product development processes, system diagrams, and schematics.
• Experience applying functional safety principles and contributing to product risk assessments, FMEAs, and FMEDAs.
• Strong analytical, communication, specification-writing, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with machine control systems and construction or agricultural machinery.
• Knowledge of ISO 19014, ISO 13849, IEC 61508, and ISO 26262.
• Experience developing organizational standards and processes and translating regulatory requirements into engineering requirements.
• Expertise in analog electronics, digital circuit design, risk mitigation, or inertial measurement units including accelerometers and gyroscopes.
