Senior Backend Engineer (Fintech)

Salary: $185,200 – $326,800 USD (based on location zones)

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain high-volume, customer-facing payment APIs.
• Lead complex engineering projects from requirements gathering through production rollout.
• Operate critical payment systems, participate in on-call rotations, and resolve production incidents.
• Improve system performance, observability, fault tolerance, and security.
• Collaborate with product and engineering partners to develop reusable payment capabilities.
• Utilize AI-assisted tools for design, implementation, and debugging while ensuring code quality.

Requirements

• Must be based in the United States.
• 8+ years of related experience (or equivalent with advanced degrees).
• Strong experience building and scaling financial or payment APIs.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, idempotency, retries, and asynchronous processing.
• Proven track record of leading complex projects and diagnosing production issues.
• Proficiency with AI-assisted engineering tools and ability to validate generated code.
• Clear written communication and experience mentoring other engineers.
