Systems Test Engineer, System Behavior Analysis (Autonomous Vehicles)

Location: San Diego, CA; hybrid workplace

Base salary: $148,000–$208,000 per year, excluding RSUs, Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights, and possible sign-on bonus.

Develops fully autonomous vehicles and the supporting mobility-as-a-service ecosystem at the intersection of robotics, machine learning, and design.

What you will do

• Analyze and diagnose system faults and errors in perception, planning, and other AI software using on-road testing and simulation data.
• Triage, categorize, and prioritize issues by severity, urgency, safety impact, and performance impact.
• Collaborate with engineering, software, and testing teams to investigate failures and determine root causes.
• Identify system failure trends and recommend preventative measures to improve platform safety and robustness.
• Create clear reports, troubleshooting documentation, and leadership insights on system quality.
• Develop tools and workflows that improve the quality and throughput of triage operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a STEM-related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in systems troubleshooting and diagnostics, preferably in automotive or embedded systems.
• Experience with Python or a similar language for automation, programming, and scripting.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills.
• Passion for autonomous vehicle technology and safety.
• Ability to work in a hybrid role based in San Diego, California.

Nice to have

• Quality assurance or triage experience in autonomous driving.
• Project management experience with cross-functional and offshore teams.
• Experience with data analytics, dashboards, and queries using SQL, Python, or Databricks.
