Senior Automation and Controls Engineer (Nuclear)

Location: Onsite in Torrance, California, United States. The role supports a pilot plant in Orangeville, Utah, and applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Salary: $144,000–$176,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Develop, configure, test, commission, and support PLC and DCS application software for reactor and nuclear fuel manufacturing facilities.
• Build SCADA and HMI applications, tag databases, communication drivers, templates, redundancy architectures, and operator-focused displays.
• Develop ISA-88 batch-control software covering phase logic, equipment modules, recipes, arbitration, material tracking, monitoring, and reporting.
• Configure ISA-18.2 alarm management, plant historians, operational dashboards, safety logic, and IEC 61511 functional tests.
• Implement ISA-95 integrations with MES, ERP, and LIMS using REST APIs, database interfaces, SQL, and Python.
• Lead FAT, SAT, commissioning, troubleshooting, documentation, configuration management, OT cybersecurity, and technical direction for contractors and junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in electrical, electronic, computer, systems engineering, computer science, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of controls software, PLC programming, or SCADA development experience in process industries.
• Hands-on experience with a major PLC platform and IEC 61131-3 programming languages.
• Experience developing SCADA applications, HMI displays, ISA-88 batch sequences, alarm management, and plant historian systems.
• Working knowledge of OPC-UA, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, or Modbus, plus safety logic programming under IEC 61511.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Nice to have

• Ignition, Rockwell, Siemens, ISA CAP, or equivalent certifications.
• Professional Engineer license and experience with nuclear quality, GAMP 5, or 21 CFR Part 11 requirements.
• Experience with OSIsoft PI/AVEVA PI, SQL, Python, REST APIs, LIMS integration, Git, or virtualized SCADA infrastructure.
• Experience with IEC 62443 OT cybersecurity and secure industrial network architecture.
