Staff Automation and Controls Engineer (Nuclear)

Location: Onsite in Torrance, California, United States. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Salary: $173,000–$211,000 USD annually

What you will do

• Serve as the technical authority for controls software across reactor and nuclear fuel manufacturing facilities.
• Own PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, ISA-88 batch, alarm, safety logic, historian, enterprise integration, and OT infrastructure architecture.
• Establish coding, template, testing, configuration management, alarm, HMI, and software quality standards across projects and sites.
• Lead control strategy development, design reviews, HAZOP participation, licensing support, and resolution of cross-discipline technical issues.
• Approve FAT, SAT, commissioning, software documentation, contractor deliverables, and safety logic changes.
• Mentor engineers, lead code reviews, direct integrators, and diagnose complex control-system and plant-operation issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, electronic, computer, systems engineering, computer science, or a related discipline.
• 8+ years of controls software, PLC programming, or SCADA development experience in process industries.
• End-to-end controls software ownership on a major capital project from functional specification through commissioning and startup.
• Expert-level experience with a major PLC platform and a major SCADA platform, including architecture, libraries, tag structures, templates, and redundancy.
• Experience with IEC 61511 safety logic validation, ISA-18.2 alarm systems, ISA-101 or HPHMI, ISA-88 batch architecture, plant historians, and OT cybersecurity.
• Experience technically directing, mentoring, reviewing, or approving the work of engineers, contractors, or integrators.

Nice to have

• Ignition, Rockwell, or Siemens platform certification; ISA Certified Automation Professional or Professional Engineer credentials.
• Experience with first-of-a-kind plants, OSIsoft PI or AVEVA PI, SQL, Python, REST APIs, LIMS integration, or virtualized and containerized SCADA infrastructure.
• Familiarity with GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, or nuclear quality requirements such as NQA-1.
