Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Remote across EMEA, with CET/CEST working hours; Germany/Munich preferred

What you will do

• Lead and grow an engineering team from 8 engineers toward approximately 12–16 people.
• Own technical decisions, engineering standards, team structure, delivery speed, and product quality.
• Ship a meaningful AI feature alongside the team during the first month and continue contributing hands-on when needed.
• Improve tooling, code review, testing, security review, and development processes while maintaining a zero-bug policy.
• Own engineering hiring, including technical challenges, interviews, evaluation, and hiring decisions.
• Guide the adoption of AI-assisted development for engineering workflows and management practices.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years managing and hiring for teams of 8 or more.
• Previous senior or principal engineering experience with a strong individual-contributor track record.
• Experience shipping AI features to production, including retrieval, RAG, or agentic workflows.
• Hands-on production experience with Cursor and Claude Code.
• Experience building a product from zero to one or scaling an engineering team in a startup.
• Ability to work in the European time zone, preferably from EMEA, Germany, or the UK.

Nice to have

• Experience growing a team to 15 or more people at a venture-funded startup.
• Experience managing tech leads or another engineering manager.
• Previous experience at a fully remote company.

Hiring process

• 30-minute introductory call with the talent team, followed by a 45-minute interview with the CTO.
• Technical interview and a 1.5-hour AI-assisted build session covering system design and implementation.
• Two-hour leadership session with the founders.
