Head of Technology - Therapeutic Areas (TAs) & External Scientific Innovation (ESI) (AI)

Location: Hybrid; Cambridge, Massachusetts; Spring House, Pennsylvania; La Jolla, California; or Beerse, Belgium. Up to 15% domestic and international travel may be required.

Base pay: $178,000–$307,050 per year.

What you will do

• Own the technology strategy, portfolio, delivery and operational performance for Therapeutic Areas and External Scientific Innovation.
• Lead people, products, platforms, systems and projects across Immunology, Oncology and Neuroscience research.
• Partner with Data, Data Science and AI leaders to define roadmaps, architectures, operating models and investment priorities.
• Direct the design, integration, validation, adoption and lifecycle management of data products, analytical solutions and AI-enabled technology.
• Connect laboratory instruments, ELN, LIMS, research data platforms, knowledge graphs, analytics environments, AI/ML platforms and clinical systems.
• Evaluate external collaborations, licensed assets, acquired data and partner platforms while maintaining security, provenance, consent and interoperability.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Biology, Bioinformatics, Chemistry, Medicine or a related scientific or technical discipline.
• At least 10 years of technology or digital product experience in pharmaceutical R&D, including at least 5 years leading people or substantial matrixed teams.
• Knowledge of the pharmaceutical R&D value chain, including target discovery and validation, lead optimization, translational research, biomarkers and clinical trial design.
• Experience with laboratory systems, instrumentation integration, ELN, LIMS, FAIR data, metadata, ontologies, knowledge management, analytics or AI/ML-enabled scientific workflows.
• Ability to translate scientific and clinical requirements into secure, resilient, reusable and scalable technology products and data capabilities.
• Strong strategic, people leadership, consulting, facilitation, influencing, communication and conflict-resolution skills.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree, PhD, MD or equivalent experience in a relevant life-science, translational, clinical or data discipline.
• Experience in Immunology, Oncology or Neuroscience research and disease-area-specific biomarker approaches.
• Experience with external scientific collaborations, due diligence, data acquisition or partner integration.
• Experience with large-scale scientific data, laboratory, knowledge-management, portfolio, biomarker or clinical technology platforms.
