Senior Director, AI Data Science

Location: Alameda, California, United States; on-site office environment

Salary: $244,000–$346,000 annually, plus bonus eligibility, equity opportunities, and employee benefits.

What you will do

• Define and execute the multi-year AI/ML and data science strategy, roadmap, operating model, and investment priorities.
• Build and lead a multidisciplinary team, including managers and senior individual contributors, while managing resources, performance, succession, and talent development.
• Establish standards for AI/ML model development, validation, interpretability, responsible AI, and Generative-AI use in regulated environments.
• Guide analytics products, LLM-based and Generative-AI workflows, automated TLF review, protocol digitalization, and decision-enablement dashboards from prototype to production.
• Oversee Databricks and cloud data platforms, pipelines, reproducibility, MLOps/LLMOps, version control, security, and audit readiness.
• Partner with Biostatistics, Statistical Programming, Clinical Data Management, IT, and R&D, and represent the organization through publications, conferences, and industry engagement.

Requirements

• At least 12–15 years of relevant experience depending on academic degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Significant leadership experience developing and deploying AI/ML and data science solutions in clinical, pharmaceutical, or life sciences settings, including GxP-regulated environments.
• Experience building teams, managing managers, setting functional strategy, owning budgets, and managing external partnerships.
• Advanced knowledge of AI/ML, statistical methodology, supervised and unsupervised learning, NLP, and Generative AI.
• Working fluency in Python, R, and SQL, with strong knowledge of Databricks, AWS, MLOps/LLMOps, Git/GitHub, and secure reproducible architectures.
• Strong understanding of clinical development, ICH, GxP, AI governance, validation, compliance, and executive stakeholder management.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with CDISC standards, including SDTM and ADaM, and clinical endpoint analysis.
