Quantum Error Correction Researcher

Location: Cambridge, UK; hybrid

Salary: £65,000–£80,000 per year, depending on experience. Part-time applications may also be considered.

What you will do

• Develop novel quantum error-correction decoding algorithms and techniques.
• Analyse decoding challenges across qubit modalities and quantum codes, creating tailored approaches for each platform.
• Model physical noise processes on qubits to improve decoding accuracy.
• Test and verify research hypotheses using numerical methods.
• Share results with other teams to guide development of the quantum error-correction stack.
• Write research papers and present work at conferences.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in mathematics, physics, computer science, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
• Knowledge of at least one programming language, preferably Python or C++.
• Ability to formulate and pursue open-ended theoretical problems independently.
• Ability to learn from and build upon academic literature, with an algorithmic approach to problem solving.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Nice to have

• Experience with quantum computing or quantum or classical error correction.
• Experience developing code in a collaborative environment.
• Contributions to a research paper.
