Senior Software Engineer I (Kafka)

Location: Toronto, Canada

Salary: CA$167,682–CA$277,431 per year base pay at the start of employment. Expected OTE is CA$186,400–CA$308,400 per year, including variable compensation.

What you will do

• Build, maintain, and evolve Currents, a large-scale data export system.
• Develop and operate a Kafka-based event pipeline processing tens of billions of messages daily.
• Build systems that enable customers to analyze user behavior in near real time.
• Take software projects from concept through production.
• Improve the reliability, scalability, and performance of critical data streaming systems.
• Collaborate with a skilled engineering team and contribute to mentoring other engineers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of full-stack development experience.
• Experience building foundational systems at scale and leading software projects with significant organizational impact.
• Experience with Kafka at scale or comparable technology.
• Professional experience with distributed systems and/or microservices.
• Strong communication, organizational, collaboration, and mentoring skills.

Nice to have

• Professional experience with Java, Kotlin, Confluent, or React.
