Head of Technology - Therapeutic Areas (TAs) & External Scientific Innovation (ESI)

Location: Hybrid role based in Beerse, Antwerp, Belgium; Cambridge, MA; Spring House, PA; or La Jolla, CA. Up to 15% domestic and international travel may be required.

Base pay: €152,900–€264,385 per year, plus an annual bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Own the technology strategy, portfolio, delivery, and operational performance for Therapeutic Areas and External Scientific Innovation.
• Lead technology products, platforms, systems, projects, direct reports, matrixed employees, and strategic partners.
• Co-develop multi-year technology, data, and AI roadmaps with the Data, Data Science and AI organization.
• Design and scale data products, analytical solutions, and AI-enabled capabilities for target discovery, lead optimization, biomarkers, and clinical trials.
• Establish secure patterns for integrating external collaborations, licensed assets, acquired data, and partner platforms.
• Ensure platform reliability, lifecycle management, regulatory compliance, privacy, security, adoption, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Biology, Bioinformatics, Chemistry, Medicine, or a related discipline.
• At least 10 years of technology or digital product experience in pharmaceutical R&D, including at least 5 years leading people or substantial matrixed teams.
• Experience with pharmaceutical R&D workflows, including target discovery and validation, lead finding and optimization, translational research, biomarkers, and clinical trial design and execution.
• Experience with laboratory systems, instrumentation integration, automation, ELN, LIMS, FAIR research data, metadata, ontologies, data lineage, and scientific knowledge management.
• Experience delivering data products, advanced analytics, responsible AI, AI/ML-enabled scientific workflows, scalable compute, and model lifecycle management.
• Strong strategic, people leadership, consulting, facilitation, influencing, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree, PhD, MD, or equivalent experience in a relevant life-science, translational, clinical, or data discipline.
• Experience in Immunology, Oncology, Neuroscience, biotechnology discovery, translational medicine, clinical development, or external innovation.
• Experience with multi-omics, imaging, in vivo, assay, biomarker, translational, and clinical data integration.
