Control Room Shift Engineer II

Location: Memphis, TN; on-site position

Salary: $26.00–$45.50 per hour

What you will do

• Monitor, operate, and maintain boilers, steam distribution, chillers, cooling towers, HVAC, water, gas, electrical, emergency power, life-safety, and building automation systems.
• Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and equipment troubleshooting.
• Respond to critical alarms and abnormal conditions involving freezers, refrigerators, incubators, environmental rooms, and data center temperatures.
• Operate as the on-site stationary steam engineer and chiller plant operator within the Central Energy Plant.
• Coordinate with Facilities Operations and Maintenance, Security Operations, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders.
• Support system installations and modifications, document required boiler-monitoring activities, and assist with training junior personnel.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; technical school diploma or certification is preferred.
• At least 2 years of experience as a shift engineer, boiler operator, maintenance mechanic, A/C refrigeration mechanic, maintenance engineer, or facility operator in a hospital or similarly rigorous environment.
• Steam Engineer First Class License and Refrigeration Engineer First Class License from the Memphis and Shelby County Office of Construction Code Enforcement are required.
• Knowledge of boilers, chillers, cooling towers, steam, chilled water, compressed gases, heat exchangers, HVAC, and related facility systems.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft software and CMMS; familiarity with building automation systems such as Metasys is preferred.
• Effective written and spoken English communication is required. Ability to work on-site, respond to emergencies, maintain predictable attendance, and lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Nice to have

• EPA Refrigerant Recovery Certification.
• Experience in a campus, multi-building, or multi-story facility environment.
• Experience with facilities management, technical maintenance, customer service, or complex building automation systems.
