Vice President, Underwriting Strategy and Portfolio Insights (Insurance)

Salary: USD $206,000–$266,000 per year

What you will do

• Partner with the SVP to shape and execute enterprise underwriting strategy.
• Analyze portfolio performance across lines, segments, geographies, and risk characteristics.
• Identify trends, profitability issues, growth opportunities, concentration risks, and changes in risk quality.
• Develop recommendations on portfolio mix, pricing direction, underwriting appetite, and performance improvement.
• Lead portfolio reviews, strategic analyses, executive reporting, and performance tracking.
• Build portfolio health frameworks, leading indicators, and analytical tools while partnering with underwriting, product, actuarial, claims, finance, analytics, and regional leadership.

Requirements

• 10+ years of property and casualty insurance experience in underwriting, actuarial, portfolio management, claims analytics, pricing, strategy, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of commercial P&C economics, pricing, loss trends, profitability drivers, and underwriting performance.
• Ability to turn complex data into clear business insights and strategic recommendations.
• Experience influencing senior stakeholders, leading people, and developing talent.
• Experience with external market data and analytics tools such as Power BI, SQL, Python, or R.
• Relevant college degree preferred; CPCU, FCAS, ACAS, or ARM designation preferred.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with predictive modeling, AI, and machine learning applications in insurance.
• Experience with underwriting strategy, portfolio management, enterprise planning, or executive-level strategy support.
• Professional designation such as CPCU, FCAS, ACAS, or ARM.
