TL;DR
Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Aerospace): Developing and scaling structural bonding processes for solid rocket motors, composite structures, and hypersonic hardware with an accent on surface preparation, adhesive application, cure control, inspection, and production qualification. Focus on designing reliable bonded joints, solving disbonds and porosity issues, and improving yield and cycle time for high-rate aerospace manufacturing.

Location: Torrance, California, United States; supports process qualification and production ramp at Midland, Texas and the Project Ranger campus in New Mexico.

Company

hirify.global develops and delivers advanced defense systems, including solid rocket motors and hypersonic hardware.

What you will do

  • Own structural bonding manufacturing processes for solid rocket motor cases, liners, insulators, nozzles, closures, and composite-to-metal interfaces.
  • Develop and qualify surface preparation, adhesive application, fixturing, curing, inspection, and non-destructive evaluation processes.
  • Execute DFM/DFA, PFMEA, control plans, and statistical process control to improve first-pass yield and cycle time.
  • Define bonding fixtures, dispensing methods, vacuum bagging or pressure-application approaches, and cure tooling with Tooling & Automation.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for disbonds, voids, porosity, contamination, incomplete cure, and other process escapes.
  • Support new product introduction, design changes, supplier collaboration, process qualification, and production ramp.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Materials Science, Chemical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6–10+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability bonded structures.
  • 3+ years of hands-on ownership of structural bonding processes, including composite, metal-to-composite, elastomer-to-composite, or equivalent bonds.
  • Practical knowledge of structural adhesives, primers, mechanical and chemical surface preparation, plasma treatment, contamination control, and cure control.
  • Experience with bond-line design, fillet control, bond-line thickness, void and porosity prevention, CAD, GD&T, PFMEA, SPC, root-cause analysis, and process qualification.
  • Access to export-controlled information may require eligibility under U.S. Government and export-control requirements; classified access or security clearance may also be required if designated.

Nice to have

  • Experience with solid rocket motor cases, liners, insulators, nozzles, missile composite structures, or energetic-materials facilities.
  • Experience with elastomer-to-composite or rubber-to-metal structural bonds.
  • Experience automating adhesive dispensing, surface preparation, or curing processes.
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ITAR programs, bonded-joint NDE, and metrology.
  • Demonstrated reduction of bond-related scrap, rework, or cycle time on flight hardware.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work in an early-stage environment with significant ownership and direct impact on advanced defense systems.
  • Collaborate with Design, Quality, Tooling & Automation, Production, Site Operations, and suppliers.
  • Operate in a hands-on, process-disciplined, safety-first manufacturing environment.
  • Generous benefits package.
