Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Torrance, California, United States; support production ramp at the Project Ranger campus in New Mexico.

What you will do

• Own manufacturing processes for solid rocket motor nozzles, including throats, exit cones, insulation, structural bonding, machining, assembly, and motor-interface integration.
• Develop and qualify manufacturing sequences, fixtures, work instructions, control plans, cure profiles, and quality records.
• Define inspection, metrology, and non-destructive evaluation strategies for nozzle geometry, bond-line quality, insulation integrity, and interface features.
• Partner with Design, Quality, Tooling, Automation, Production, Operations, and suppliers on new product introduction, equipment qualification, and production ramp.
• Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for dimensional escapes, bonding and insulation defects, machining issues, and integration problems.
• Improve first-pass yield, cycle time, cost, scrap, and rework using DFM/DFA, PFMEA, SPC, and process capability methods.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
• 6–10+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in aerospace, defense, propulsion, or composite and metallic structures.
• 3+ years of hands-on ownership of nozzle, throat, exit-cone, or comparable high-temperature propulsion hardware manufacturing.
• Experience qualifying processes and transitioning flight-critical hardware from development to production.
• Strong experience with precision machining, composite or metallic fabrication, insulation application, structural bonding, CAD, GD&T, and tolerance stack-ups.
• Working knowledge of PFMEA, SPC, root-cause methods, process qualification, metrology, NDE, AS9100, and contamination-sensitive assembly practices.

Nice to have

• Direct experience with solid rocket motor nozzles, throats, exit cones, or comparable missile and space propulsion hardware.
• Experience with carbon-carbon, graphite, composite, or high-temperature metallic nozzle materials.
• Experience integrating nozzles with motor cases or closures.
• Familiarity with ITAR programs and manufacturing in energetic-materials facilities.
• Experience reducing scrap, rework, or cycle time on flight-critical hardware.
