Perinatal Data Specialist (Healthcare)

Location: 245 E. Chicago Avenue, Chicago, IL, United States. Full-time day shift, Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday depending on departmental needs.

Salary: $23.51–$29.39 per hour.

What you will do

• Interview parents of live births and early neonatal deaths to collect demographic information for birth certificates.
• Abstract medical information from patient records and complete birth certificate, APORS, and other public health documentation.
• Review infant records and diagnosis codes to identify reportable conditions and submit reports to the Illinois Department of Public Health within required timeframes.
• Follow up on abnormal newborn metabolic screening results, coordinate retesting and referrals, and communicate recommendations to pediatricians.
• Act as a liaison among IDPH, NICU staff, nursing, social work, physicians, public health personnel, families, and laboratories.
• Maintain electronic and paper logs, prepare and scan archived documents, perform quality assurance reviews, and complete reporting projects.

Requirements

• Associate's degree or higher.
• At least four years of experience in a hospital or medical office environment, including medical billing, data abstraction, or transcription.
• Extensive knowledge of medical terminology and strong Microsoft applications experience.
• Ability to work independently, make decisions, multitask, and maintain accuracy under pressure.
• Strong customer service, communication, analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
• Ability to work the assigned day-shift schedule, including Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday.
