Health Information Specialist Lead (Healthcare)

Location: Onsite in Buffalo, NY, with local and regional travel of 75% or more and commuting between locations as needed

What you will do

• Receive, process, retrieve, and transmit patient health information and medical record requests.
• Protect patient confidentiality and ensure every release complies with HIPAA, authorizations, company policies, and facility procedures.
• Prepare, assemble, scan, and maintain accurate paper and electronic patient charts.
• Handle calls, walk-ins, faxes, mail, data entry, pickup scheduling, and operational reporting.
• Lead staff training, onboarding, mentoring, quality assurance activities, and regional coverage.
• Support productivity goals, project teams, process initiatives, and escalation of operational issues.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and at least one year of health information-related experience.
• Must be at least 18 years old and able to work onsite in Buffalo, NY.
• Must be able to travel locally or regionally 75% or more of the time and commute between locations.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
• Strong data entry, organization, problem-solving, presentation, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, including overtime during peak seasons.

Nice to have

• Two or more years of health information-related experience.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, medical terminology, electronic health records, billing systems, and subpoenas.
• Production- or metric-based work experience and in-person customer service experience.
• Experience suggesting process improvements and building relationships with onsite clients.
