Phlebotomist - Inpatient, Full-Time, Days

Location: 710 N. Fairbanks, Chicago, Illinois, United States; full-time day shift

Salary: $19.81–$26.74 per hour

What you will do

• Collect blood specimens through venipuncture and micro-collection techniques.
• Perform point-of-care testing and instruct patients on collecting urine, stool, and other non-blood specimens.
• Verify test requests, patient information, labels, and specimen vouchers.
• Process, prepare, and route specimens while resolving lost, damaged, mislabeled, or incorrectly identified samples.
• Maintain laboratory supplies and perform quality assurance on centrifuges, refrigerators, and incubators.
• Support patient flow, answer calls, and respond to information requests.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized organization, training from a phlebotomy school or medical institution, at least one year of healthcare phlebotomy experience, or CMA certification.
• Ability to assess patients and select appropriate specimen collection techniques.
• Ability to process and identify laboratory specimens accurately.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.

Nice to have

• Experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient types.
• Experience transferring specimens and operating a centrifuge.
• Familiarity with medical EMR systems.
