What you will do
- Perform venipuncture and other laboratory specimen collections according to age-related standards and departmental protocols.
- Process, label, centrifuge, aliquot, freeze, package, and transport specimens while maintaining sample stability and integrity.
- Review physician orders and enter accurate laboratory test requests across multiple systems.
- Provide patient communication and post-phlebotomy care while prioritizing safety and service quality.
- Monitor equipment, refrigerator temperatures, quality records, manifests, and corrective actions.
- Complete laboratory reception and clerical duties, including result verification, patient information retrieval, inventory management, filing, and equipment sanitation.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized organization, training from a phlebotomy school or medical institution, at least one year of healthcare phlebotomy experience, or CMA certification.
- Ability to work safely with biohazardous materials and follow laboratory, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
- Strong patient communication, teamwork, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to use medical record systems, email, handheld devices, and desktop applications.
Nice to have
- Experience with a broad range of patient types.
- Experience processing and transferring specimens and operating a centrifuge.
- Familiarity with medical EMR systems and medical terminology.
