Staff Backend Software Engineer - Loki

Location: Remote for candidates located in Australia or Singapore

Base compensation in Australia: AUD 168,000–210,000

hirify.global develops Grafana Cloud, an open-source-based observability platform for metrics, logs, traces, and profiles.

What you will do

• Design, build, operate, and maintain critical telemetry systems with responsibility for reliability, performance, and availability.
• Develop and deliver new features from ideation and requirements gathering through production operations.
• Work on Loki and related open-source observability projects.
• Participate in on-call rotations and own the services in production.
• Influence the roadmap, contribute to design discussions, and collaborate with the engineering team.
• Mentor and support other engineers while building expertise in large distributed systems.

Requirements

• Solid experience with at least one programming language; Go is used primarily, while Python, C, C++, Rust, or similar experience is transferable.
• Experience delivering projects independently from requirements and brainstorming through customer-facing release.
• Experience developing cloud software or working in systems engineering.
• Ability to write clean, robust, performant, and maintainable software.
• Strong independent working, communication, collaboration, and customer-focused problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with low-level code for databases, storage layers, or query engines.
• Experience with Kubernetes, microservices, distributed systems, or infrastructure as code.
• Experience using Grafana or Prometheus in operational, on-call, hobby, or homelab environments.
• Experience with on-call responsibilities and SRE operations.
