Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Go)

Location: Remote across the Americas

Salary: $200,000–$240,000 USD annually, plus a 10% annual bonus target

What you will do

• Set the technical direction for distributed messaging systems in Go and make architectural decisions for mission-critical services.
• Lead ambiguous, high-impact problems spanning multiple squads and functions.
• Build consensus on technical tradeoffs and communicate recommendations to senior leadership.
• Raise engineering standards through mentoring, design frameworks, technical documentation, and process improvements.
• Interview candidates and calibrate assessments against the career ladder.
• Use AI agents to scope, prompt, and verify multi-file code changes.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience building scalable distributed systems in Go or similar statically typed languages, including architecture leadership.
• Experience designing for production throughput, cost, reliability, observability, recovery, rollback, backpressure, and checkpointing.
• Experience with cloud-native environments such as AWS and GCP.
• Strong understanding of relational databases and performance tradeoffs, including MySQL.
• Demonstrated impact through mentorship, technical writing, design reviews, or durable engineering standards.
• Must be able to work remotely across the Americas.
