Staff Backend Engineer, Core DevOps (Go/Kubernetes)

Location: Remote in Canada or the United States

Base salary: $152,800–$259,200 USD annually for United States residents.

What you will do

• Lead the technical design and delivery of backend initiatives spanning multiple teams and product groups.
• Modernize the monolith and legacy backends into modular, reusable, appropriately independent systems.
• Define standards for APIs, contracts, schema evolution, testing, security, performance, observability, operability, and maintainability.
• Establish Go service patterns and Kubernetes operating practices, and guide Rust adoption for systems, security, performance, and supply-chain needs.
• Participate in on-call and incident response, serving as a technical escalation point and converting incident lessons into lasting improvements.
• Mentor engineers, reduce technical debt, influence platform investment decisions, and guide AI-assisted and agentic engineering workflows.

Requirements

• Experience leading technical work across multiple teams or a broad product area.
• Deep production experience with backend architecture, complex applications, services, platforms, APIs, data systems, modular monoliths, or shared backend components.
• Experience modernizing monolithic or legacy backend architecture using modular approaches, service extraction, or event-driven boundaries.
• Ability to build alignment through written proposals and decision records.
• Experience balancing customer outcomes, delivery speed, technical health, reliability, and long-term platform investment.
• Production experience with AI-assisted or agentic engineering workflows.
