Head of Cloud Operations (Defense Technology)

Location: Remote in the United States; U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance are required

Salary: $200,000–$220,000 annually, plus equity and bonus opportunities

What you will do

• Lead and manage SRE and DevOps teams, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and technical direction.
• Own reliability practices such as SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, on-call health, infrastructure automation, CI/CD, and observability.
• Define change classes, approval paths, maintenance windows, freeze periods, rollback requirements, and GitOps-based change records.
• Own release calendars, versioning, environment promotion, pre-deployment verification, and coordination across Cloud Platform, Backend, Autonomy, and Frontend teams.
• Lead incident management, incident command, escalation, communications, blameless post-incident reviews, and remediation tracking.
• Maintain authoritative deployment records, system baselines, configuration-drift detection, audit evidence, and POA&M remediation tracking in partnership with the ISSO.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience across cloud operations, SRE, DevOps, platform engineering, service management, change management, release management, incident management, or related disciplines.
• Experience leading SRE, DevOps, or Platform Engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
• Strong understanding of cloud operations, software delivery, infrastructure automation, production reliability, and complex technical environments.
• Technical fluency in deployment strategies, rollback plans, impact assessments, root-cause analysis, and operational risk.
• Ability to lead incidents under pressure and produce clear incident communications, post-incident reports, operational documentation, and executive updates.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Nice to have

• Incident command experience in regulated, defense, government, or safety-relevant environments.
• Experience with U.S. Government authorization requirements, POA&Ms, security authorization processes, configuration baselines, and audit evidence.
• Experience with GitOps-based change and release processes or ITIL service management practices.
• Experience with Jira, PagerDuty, status pages, runbook platforms, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, CI/CD platforms, observability systems, and modern cloud infrastructure.
