Lead C++ Software Engineer (Machine Control)

Location: Dayton, Ohio, United States — on-site / office-based. Travel requirement: 0–10%.

Salary: $115,600–$158,900 per year. Bonus eligible; not commission eligible.

What you will do

• Design, implement, deliver, and support C++ software for complex machine-control applications.
• Develop multithreaded software in Linux environments for high-performance execution.
• Build commissioning workflows and machine-integration components within the hirify.global Earthworks ecosystem.
• Lead design discussions, contribute to architecture decisions, and take ownership of complex software components.
• Mentor engineers, lead technical reviews, and improve engineering practices across the team.
• Resolve system-level issues through root-cause analysis and ensure unit, integration, and system-level test coverage.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of professional C++ development experience with strong object-oriented design and software engineering knowledge.
• Experience developing and debugging multithreaded applications in Linux-based environments.
• Experience with complex machine-control, real-time, embedded, or highly integrated software applications.
• Ability to lead technical discussions, influence design decisions, mentor engineers, and resolve complex engineering problems.
• Ability to work on-site in Dayton, Ohio.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI-assisted tools and methodologies for software optimization, debugging, and development.
• Agile development experience and proficiency with Git.
• Experience with CAN, Ethernet-based application-layer protocols, TCP/IP, real-time operating systems, Linux system internals, or embedded software.
• Familiarity with Conan, Python, Go, Gherkin, machine-control systems, IoT concepts, or Angular.
