Director, Clinical Development AI Partnerships

Location: San Francisco, California, United States

Base salary: $182,000–$346,000 per year

What you will do

• Source and evaluate AI partnership opportunities across startups, technology companies, model labs, clinical technology platforms, digital health, academia, and life sciences investors.
• Lead diligence workstreams with Clinical Development, R&D, business technology, legal, privacy, compliance, procurement, and other stakeholders.
• Design and coordinate pilots, benchmarks, proof-of-concept studies, and technical evaluations for AI models and platforms in clinical development.
• Manage deal flow, partner interactions, diligence materials, pilot status, governance decisions, risks, and recommendations for senior leadership.
• Support partnership structures, term sheets, statements of work, risk mitigation, and negotiation considerations.
• Build external relationships and reusable playbooks for clinical development AI innovation, including decision criteria, ROI frameworks, and buy-build-partner guidance.

Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant experience in clinical development, clinical innovation, clinical operations, clinical data science, AI strategy, business development, consulting, venture, corporate strategy, or related life sciences technology roles.
• Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, medicine, pharmacy, engineering, computer science, data science, business, or a related discipline.
• Understanding of clinical development workflows and pain points, including trial design, study start-up, enrollment, clinical operations, and evidence needs.
• Working knowledge of AI/ML, generative AI, agentic AI, analytics, clinical technology, digital health, or data-enabled platforms.
• Experience with opportunity assessment, technical or business diligence, pilots, collaborations, partnerships, licensing, or other strategic initiatives.
• Strong communication, project management, stakeholder management, judgment, negotiation support, and execution skills.

Nice to have

• Pharmaceutical or biotechnology drug development experience, particularly in clinical development, clinical operations, clinical innovation, R&D strategy, or business development.
• Experience in immunology, oncology, neuroscience, eye care, obesity, or another relevant therapeutic area.
• Experience with AI-native startups, technology companies, product organizations, venture-backed companies, or life sciences consulting.
• Experience designing or interpreting AI pilots, benchmarks, technical evaluations, or value assessments.
• Familiarity with data, privacy, compliance, regulatory, procurement, information security, and change-management requirements in regulated clinical environments.
